The event not to be missed if you love music, Prague Spring offers many concerts every year in May and receives the best composers and musicians : Leonard Bernstein, Charles Munch or Herbert von Karajan participated in the festival in the past. For music lover, it is a good opportunity to live a big musical event for a reasonable price.
A Czech but also international music festival
The first festival took place in 1946, for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Czech philarmony. Prague Spring always begins on 12th May which corresponds to the anniversary of the death of Bedřich Smetana, the famous Czech composer.
The festival also stands for a Czech national celebration. It is always inaugurated by the Symphonyc poem „My homeland“ by Smetana. Until 1993, its interpretation was exclusively performed by the Czech Philarmony, since then, it is the privilege of the guest artists.

Prague Spring Concerts takes place in the most prestigious concert halls. Their names evoke once more the memory of the great czech composers : the Smetana Hall of Municipal House ; the Dvořák Hall of Rudolfinum; the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle or the Wallenstein garden.
During this event, you will hear all style music. Certain years are thematicLors de ce rendez-vous des amoureux de la musique, vous pourrez entendre des morceaux de tous les styles. Certaines années have themes – some festivals were dedicated for exmaple to the Czech music, to Mozart or to the Czech composer Janáček. There is also an international competition– it is teh opportunity for young musicians and composers to attract attention.
